Omicron Variant: From Discovery To Global Panic In 48 Hours

Daily Mail: From discovery to global panic in 48 hours: How South African scientists' warnings about soaring cases of Covid super-mutant variant sparked frantic cabinet meeting and worldwide travel ban

* B.1.1.529 was first discovered in Hong Kong on Monday when a patient travelled back from South Africa

* The variant received international attention on Wednesday but dismissed as not an 'issue' by No10

* A surge in cases in South Africa led to ministers and experts meeting on Thursday to discuss a response

* Britain and Europe closed off their borders to Southern Africa today and experts mooted further lockdowns

The world shut itself off from Southern Africa today in response to a super mutant variant that was unheard of just days ago. B.1.1.529 — which has now been named Omicron— was first picked up in Hong Kong on Monday in a patient who had travelled from South Africa.

It did not catch international attention until Wednesday after a British scientists mentioned its 32 'horrific' mutations on social media after cases were picked up in Botswana and South Africa as well.

Botswana? Really?

Zimbabwe is right next door. Diseases proliferate in poorer countries more so than rich ones. Mugabe made Zimbabwe very poor.

It should be called the Mugabe variant.

Stay tuned!! In a month or so we're going to have a "super duper" mutant variant or something. If the leadership class deems we need it sooner, they'll tell us all about it!!

While I can understand why the US leadership class plays this game, I am a bit puzzled as to why South Africa does it. I'm pretty sure our leadership class HATES the leaders of states like TX and FL who are thus far choosing not to play their game and are calling their bluff.

The virus is plenty bad enough. When our government's response is added in a bad situation is made even worse.

In the book "The Forgotten Man" by Amity Schlaes she makes the point that FDR had a choice. He could wage war against free enterprise or he could wage war against The Axis. He chose the latter, because the Anglo Dutch-American aristocrat was just barely smart enough to make the right choice at that point in time.

Today's Democrats are too far gone. They want to wage war against Russia, confront China while still sucking the teat, and wage war against the free market and the people of the USA with their COVID mandates.

On top of everything we have abut half dozen trolls, one of whom thought he was cutesy by posting 9 inane comments above.

There are limits to virus spread inside the body. Perhaps they should posit an upper bound and start to pin it down with measurements. Otherwise, it will be like racism, where they always tell us how far we have come and how we have so far to go. What if you were on a road trip and your navigator said as much. You have travel several thousand miles and the navigator tells you that you have several thousand to go. You would fire the navigator.

THE piece about FDR is stupid. Should he (FDR) have avoided a war when Japan bombed us and Germany declared war on us?
