Reuters: Putin says West taking Russia's 'red lines' too lightly

MOSCOW (Reuters) -President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the West was taking Russia's warnings not to cross its "red lines" too lightly and that Moscow needed serious security guarantees from the West.

In a wide-ranging foreign policy speech, the Kremlin leader also described relations with the United States as "unsatisfactory" but said Russia remained open to dialogue with Washington.

The Kremlin said in September that NATO would overstep a Russian red line if it expanded its military infrastructure in Ukraine, and Moscow has since accused Ukraine and NATO of destabilising behaviour, including in the Black Sea.

WNU Editor: Putin is right. But to be fair the West is all over the place right now confronting a multiple of crisis.

Covid. Energy shortages. Inflation. Broken borders. Supply chain problems. Massive debts. Growing inequality.

The focus is nowhere and everywhere.

In the past it would be the U.S. President providing leadership and direction for the West. But after the Afghan disaster where US allies were abandoned by the White House, something has changed. IMHO US foreign policy has become scattered, especially on foreign policy issues, international security, and yes, appreciating "red lines" and the consequences if they are not respected.

Exactly. Russia has been engaged in red line crossing for sometime now including state terrorism.

Ukraine is a free state.

Sadly the WNU author is very anti-ukraine. If Russia annexed it tomorrow, he'd see this as a win.

Hearing about a helluvalotta Chinese and Russian 'red lines' involving this or that over the last several months. What Western'red lines' does Moscow or China take seriously these days?

Do you know what is happening usually when yo high up in debts, high up inflation, handling a divided nation, inequality? You just need a war who makes all that problems disappear. The people will gather behind the head of state and go to war for you.

Cheers

I love the gaslighting from Putin, his country consistently crosses redlines and has the nerve to whine about others doing it, the chutzpah with these commies.
