The Hill: US COVID-19 deaths in 2021 surpass last year's toll
The United States passed yet another sobering milestone in the COVID-19 pandemic as the number of 2021 coronavirus deaths surpassed the 2020 total.
According to the latest available data from Johns Hopkins University, the U.S. has reached at least 770,691 COVID-19 deaths over the full course fo the pandemic.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that the total number of deaths involving COVID-19 in 2020 was 385,343.
That means that at least 385,348 COVID-19 deaths - 15 more than the 2020 total -have so far been recorded in 2021, and that number will only rise in the days and weeks to come.

The numbers don’t reflect reality.
COVID came from China and before we sue China, the US bears much culpability , since Fauci funded it.
Virus research is a lot like designing jets. In the 1950s they pushed the envelope. They flew faster and higher. Many pilots died. Now we still strive to push the envelope, but we use more testing and modeling before we send a jet up.
Do we want to know what each combination of genes do for a pathogen or any living organism> Yes. IS there only one way to do it? No. We are developing better programs for protein folding. Knowing the sequence of a gene and thus the shape of protein it encodes-for, would tell us hot it interacts with different types of receptors of living cells.

With protein shapes and the enzymes that viruses encode we can model or investigate metabolic pathways.
Or we could rush it and do gain of function research, which Fauci was doing.
This is similar to the war crimes committed at Auschwitz. Doctors there conducted hypothermia research. It is valuable information. We did not destroy the research but kept it. We could have obtained such finding at a later date using better methods. We might have had to wait one or two decades , but it would have been ethical.
What Fauci has done is not the same, but it is similar.
