US President Biden Considering Diplomatic Boycott Of Beijing Olympics

CNBC: Biden says the U.S. is considering a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics

* President Biden said that he is considering a U.S. diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympic games in Beijing to protest China’s treatment of its Uyghur Muslim minority.

* Under a diplomatic boycott, American athletes would participate in the games, but U.S. officials would not attend.

* Human rights activists have long called for a global boycott of the Beijing Olympics, which they have sought to label the “Genocide Games.”

WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden said Thursday that the U.S. is considering a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympic games in Beijing to protest China’s treatment of its Uyghur Muslim minority.

Under a diplomatic boycott, American athletes would still participate in the games, which begin Feb. 4, 2022. But an official delegation of U.S. government officials would not attend.

The idea of a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing games is not new. As early as April, a State Department spokesman said the U.S. was in talks with key allies about ways to protest China’s human rights record at the Winter Olympics.

"Considering a diplomatic boycott?!?!? This will have zero impact on China hosting the Winter Olympics."

Exactly, that's the POINT! This allows the Dems to say they're being tough on China, without, you know, being tough on China. Kinda like the really serious American intelligence agencies opening a really serious "investigation" into the Chinese lab connection to the corona pandemic. In the end, all we got was a big fat INCONCLUSIVE. Yeah. Sure. Youbetcha. But at least now they can deny claims that they never questioned the Chinese version of events, or called the CCP out on their lack of cooperation since the very beginning. That's the Dem game--do just enough to provide plausible deniability without ever really resolving anything.

aka the same bitch

a) Send athletes & political representation
b) Send athletes only
c) Organize a boycott
d) Kick China out of the Olympics
e) Hold competing games

Usually it is a, b or c. Jimmy Carter did c. Not sure if b has been tried before. Option b very much looks like trying to thread the needle and failing.

Options (a) and (b) are Chinese wins. The Chinese public and the world will not know or will not much care, if the US does not send Biden, Kamala or someone else.

In fact not sending Kamala is a win for the White House. They have less damage control to do if she is not there to giggle or give or weird answer.

Can you show huge news stories of politicians going to the Olympics? Last one I recall was South Korea and the North Korean leaders sister went.

Kim Jong Un dispatches younger sister as envoy to Olympics

Conducting a internet search I see Jill Biden went to the Tokyo summer Olympics. But that is the point, I had to do a search. No one really cares. Jill went because the Pretender is on the throne and Jill is going to live it up. Jet Lag would have been Hell on The Pretender.

American presidents usually attend the games, when they are in the US. GWB attended the 2008 games in China.

China did invade Hong Kong. China's invasion of Hong Kong qualifies as a war. But Joe will not boycott China like Jimmy boycotted the USSR

"Following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in December 1979, Carter organized an international boycott of Moscow’s 1980 Summer Games."

Here is an interesting fact about the people, who care.

'FDR ... But regarding the Olympics, he is probably best remembered for his snub of Jesse Owens. Owens once said, “I wasn’t invited to shake hands with Hitler, but I wasn’t invited to the White House to shake hands with the President, either" '

US should do a full boycott, not Biden's fearful half measure.

American athletes would hardly agree. You of course will and can boycott since all you do is watch on tv

President Biden will transfer power to Vice President Kamala Harris while he undergoes a routine colonoscopy at Walter Reed Medical Center on Friday, according to the White House.

The big picture: Biden will also receive his first annual physical as president.

Details: "As was the case when President George W. Bush had the same procedure in 2002 and 2007, and following the process set out in the Constitution, President Biden will transfer power to the vice president for the brief period of time when he is under anesthesia," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said.

"The vice president will wor

Another verbatim copy by Parrot at 1100. Eschewing the NYT and Washington Compost, Parrot went straight for the dung heap at Axios.

1100's plagiarized comment had nothing whatsoever to do with the blogpost. The angle is the undereducated jerk want to make Biden and Kamala appear presidential. Both of them are following serious algorithms. In Hollywood they call them scripts and in Washington they call them protocols. In the real world they are called business processes. Most peeps can follow processes except for people like Joe, who mutter "What am I doing here?"
