* The Beijing-3 snapped hi-res images of a 1,470 square-mile area of the US in 42 seconds.
* The satellite can rotate rapidly in orbit without compromising image quality, researchers said.
* This unprecedented feat means China can scan large areas in a single sweep, all in high definition.
A small, one-ton Chinese satellite can quickly snap high-resolution images of US cities that are so detailed they can identify individual military vehicles and the weapons they carry, Chinese scientists involved in the Beijing-3 satellite project said on Tuesday.
The commercial Beijing-3 satellite, launched by China in June, conducted an in-depth scan of a 1,470 square-mile area in the San Francisco Bay.
The satellite captured the area within 42 seconds, The South China Morning Post first reported, citing results published this month in the Chinese peer-reviewed journal Spacecraft Engineering.

But America graduates more American literature majors and women studies majors than China. Don't forget Queer studies. We are a galaxy leader there.
I voted a billion times, m.y dear leader, sig hail
Well, that's not a better resolution that KH12 did a lot of years ago. The only difference is the "release time"... which is not a problem for America because we have so much more satellite than China.
here is what a well versed but non tech or science guys knows:
that post is misleading. It is not a question of how fast an image can be taken but rather how long it takes to down load it to a station for analysis!
and I forgot:
can that see through clouds..we now have that capability
tip: central control in a dictatorship can do what the Chinese are doing and it has issues in a nation with govt structure such as ours
You are not "well versed".
Tip: Stick to what you know.
Oh look, an English major, who rarely capitalizes or punctuates.
Taking the picture and downloading the picture us the end of it, eh?
What about analyst time at the CIA or DIA?
You did not include politician dither time. That could be years.
Watch "The Real Story of ... Zero Dark Thirty"
Politician dither time can be years. That's no joke!
