Newsweek: Europe's Energy Crisis Just Got Even Worse
Europe's energy crisis got even worse on Monday after France declared severe nuclear outages and prices continued to balloon above €300 per megawatt hour (MWh) in almost every country on the continent. The crisis comes as much of Europe is bracing for sub-zero temperatures this winter, including in several capitals this week. In France, the electricity price stood at €442.88 MWh on Monday, the highest amount in Europe and its highest price since 2009, according to Energy Live. The energy price in France spiked by 15.9 percent in the last day, according to the website.

Moscow does not want to run gas through Ukraine and pay Ukraine any transit fees. If it hurts Europe, they do not care.

Happily for Putin, there is a high pressure front that stalled over Europe, which means that wind power is at a bare fraction of its rated capacity.

In 2017 President Trump begged the Germans to sign contracts for American natural gas. Merkels ministers sneered at the offer claiming the Americans wanted to sell expensive gas compared to Russian gas.
They turned him down, a grave blunder and another German weakening of NATO. Now the Putin friendly SPD has the chancellor’s office, Ukraine is facing invasion, Germany is facing drastic energy shortages and NATO is torn between appeasing Putin or confronting him.
