JFK Assassination Files Released. CIA Was Told 'Russia Was Planning To Pay Hitman $100k To Kill The US President' A Year Before He Was Assassinated

Daily Mail: Classified JFK assassination files are FINALLY released: Lee Harvey Oswald was in contact with member of KGB two months before shooting and CIA was told 'Russia was planning to pay hitman $100k to kill the president' a YEAR before he died

* More than 1,500 files were released by the National Archives at noon on Wednesday about JFK's assassination

* They include memos by CIA officers in the immediate aftermath of the shooting on November 23, 1963

* One details how Lee Harvey Oswald met with a KGB agent on September 29, 1963, in Mexico City

* The documents also included previously sealed files on Operation Mongoose, the CIA's plan to destabilize the Cuban government and remove Fidel Castro from power

* Unsealed files from the 1975 Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Activities state that President Kennedy's brother, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, was part of the secret National Security Council group overseeing Mongoose

* Not all of the files will be released; the NSA is holding some back pending further review

* The secrecy has fueled conspiracy theories about JFK's assassination

* The President was killed in 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald while riding in his motorcade in Dallas, Texas

* Oswald denied shooting JFK in his interviews with police; he was killed two days later while being transported by police by a nightclub owner who shot him

* Biden had promised to make the files public by October but he delayed, claiming COVID back logs stalled the release

More than 1,500 previously classified JFK assassination files have today been made public, including documents about killer Lee Harvey Oswald's contact with a KGB agent two months before the shooting.

The files were released at noon on Wednesday by the National Archives, after months of delays by Biden who had promised to make them public but then stalled, claiming COVID backlogs was the reason.

Not all of them are now public - some are still being held back for further review by the NSA until next December, a move that has been slammed by members of Kennedy's family.

WNU Editor: On the day that President Kennedy was assassinated my father's best friend told him that the Soviet Union was behind President Kennedy's assassination. My father did not know if that claim was true, but he told me more than once when I was growing up that he was afraid on what would happen if it was true.

The nearly 1,500 newly released documents are available on the Archive's website here.

Different government. There is some continuity in personnel between the USSR and Russia, but still different enough after a generation that it would be pointless except another black mark against communism.

More interested inn the here and now. There more than enough criminal and wrong with the Russian oligarchs or the American oligarchs of today.

I wo0uld rather go after the Muslim terrorists/jihadis, hackers of whatever country and Putin than worry about prosecuting some geriatric case in Moscow in an old folks home. Prosecuting them would be as pointless as expending resources to prosecute low level "NAZIs", while sipping tea with terror financers of today.

They do not know anything more today than they did then and they did nothing about back then. The reason being the nuclear arsenal and conventional might of the USSR. That applies today. If they want to make hay of it today what they knew all along, it is more about the political power of those in power now than the good of the country or justice for JFK.

Howard Hunt made a death bed confession that he was involved in the assassination of JFK. The operation was apperently code named The Big Event. Why would the Russians wish to assassinate the president of the United States? A devastating war would commence. Look what happened to the world when Franz Ferdinand stopped one in Sarajevo. Keep ducking 🙈

This does seem far fetched. In terms of risk/reward it's quite dumb. Perhaps this is what the editor's father feared. When dumb leaders do dumb, they place us all in needless peril.

As neither government is the same today, punishing anyone now is pointless. Why make an issue of what you knew then now? Our leadership class seems obsessed with stoking conflict with Russia right now. They're getting more desperate by the day. No one wants this conflict except them!!

If such a conflict occurred, I'm pretty sure who Russia's allies would be. Who would actually stand with us? A few "light weights" like Ukraine or former Eastern Bloc/former Soviet Republics might be with us at the very beginning but I expect them to abandon us very quickly and even turn hostile. Essentially America will be alone in such a war. When leadership chooses badly, bad things tend to happen.

Hm, though it has long been among the various theories, I find it difficult to believe the USSR would risk all out war by killing the US president. Considering how things occurred, too many things would have been out of their direct control to ensure the conspiracy remained secret. That would be my initial opinion, though it appears there's enough evidence to prove the case.

Yes, it was a long time ago. Things were different.

It is not like the Russians have not tried to kill other world presidents.
