New York Times: Most of the World’s Vaccines Likely Won’t Prevent Infection From Omicron
A growing body of preliminary research suggests the Covid vaccines used in most of the world offer almost no defense against becoming infected by the highly contagious Omicron variant.
All vaccines still seem to provide a significant degree of protection against serious illness from Omicron, which is the most crucial goal. But only the Pfizer and Moderna shots, when reinforced by a booster, appear to have initial success at stopping infections, and these vaccines are unavailable in most of the world.
The other shots — including those from AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and vaccines manufactured in China and Russia — do little to nothing to stop the spread of Omicron, early research shows. And because most countries have built their inoculation programs around these vaccines, the gap could have a profound impact on the course of the pandemic.

WNU Editor: The vaccines may not prevent infection from Omicron, but will it minimize the impact the coronavirus will have on the patient?
The preliminary data says yes.
Unfortunately, due to it being highly contagious, this variant will probably impact a wider population that will result in higher hospitalizations or worse.

So far, on my knowledge, there is one death from Omicron. Contagious, yes, but dangerous? not sure.

I guess New York AG Letitia James is just royally screwed. She had better quarantine as much as possible as well as socially distance, when she can't. She is not only a fat, stupid fucker, but have you seen her elbow? She is so busy sitting on her fat ass playing politics and playing favorites with the law, she has no time exercise or nutrition. Gawd knows what else the wastrel has done.
I keep hearing at least some of the boosters will so who knows. I'm not too worried about it regardless.

Is South Africa not doing this to save money, because they have so little?
It is hard to judge because there are confounding factors like the the high HIV infection rate and other factors.
More infectious, milder illness.
That’s par for course for corona type viruses.
Given the large numbers with natural immunity, the vaccinated population thus can’t be a big deal in terms of deaths or hospitalization.
Pfizer, Moderna, Democrats hardest hit and will need mental health care.
Well said 528. You left out politicians, who love mandates will be hardest hit and will need 24/7 psychiatric care.
