NPR: China's ambassador to the U.S. warns of 'military conflict' over Taiwan

China's ambassador to the United States issued a warning Thursday: The U.S. could face "military conflict" with China over the future status of Taiwan.

In his first one-on-one interview since assuming his post in Washington, D.C., last July, Qin Gang accused Taiwan of "walking down the road toward independence," and added, "If the Taiwanese authorities, emboldened by the United States, keep going down the road for independence, it most likely will involve China and the United States, the two big countries, in a military conflict."

It was an unusually direct statement about the U.S. and Taiwan. Observers say China usually speaks in more general terms, such as saying that the U.S. is "playing with fire."

This will only encourage a strengthening of ties, at least from the perspective of the US. The US leadership class hungers and thirsts for war. The bigger the power the better they say. Win or lose it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter!! Fight on land, sea, and even on space!! Fight for glory!! Never mind the fact that our space program is a joke compared to our adversaries.

Does Taiwan want war? Probably not. Taiwan is a Chinese province which even their leaders recognize. All of their "posturing" is designed to better their position whenever the inevitable reunification happens. Based upon careful observation this is my "take" on this. As for our leadership class, they're to stupid to even realize they're being used here.

The true target here for this messaging is Probably Taiwan. Do they want war when the ultimate outcome can't be altered nor do their leaders desire to do so.

As for Americans, the overwhelming majority of us who are legal are simply trying to survive and hardly have time to notice. As such, we probably aren't the target here of the Chinese messaging as the Chinese leadership already knows this.

Hopefully we can catch on soon. I'm pretty sure most of us aren't going to be thrilled at being cannon fodder for our leadership class.
