US Navy Boot Camp To Include Classes On Suicide Prevention, Hazing, Racism And Sexual Assault

Daily Mail: Navy training goes woke: Boot camp to include classes on suicide prevention, hazing, racism and sexual assault after numerous crisis over past number of years

* The Navy will add two weeks of training to its boot camp program that focusing on suicide and sexual assault prevention, hazing and extremism

 * Navy Officials said it would tackle the problems the agency has faced involving the rise of suicides and sexual assaults, as well as fires and deadly ship collisions

* It also includes the rise of extremism after several former and active military members took part in the January 6 Capitol riot

* The changes were first suggested after the Navy found crew members were ill-prepared to stop a fire that destroyed a $1.2 billion ship in 2020

The US Navy said it was expanding it's eight-week boot camp program to include two more weeks of classes focusing on suicide prevention, sexual assault, hazing and racism.

The change, the first major overhaul in nearly 20 years, comes as the Navy grapples with major shipboard issues over the years that include failures to address sexual assaults, fires and deadly collisions and the rise of extremism within the ranks.

Rear Adm. Jennifer Couture, who heads the Naval Service Training Command, told the Associated Press that the two extra weeks of classes would reinforce the behavior desired in a US naval officer.

Study reveals top reason behind soldiers' suicides

Myself I would give the following reasons:

1. Fear of washing out
2. Pressure from drill instructors (They intend to break you down and rebuild you)
3. Fear of commitment * you have almost 4 years of this (?)
4. Transplantation. You are cut off form your old environment and thrust not a new one,. Sure you make new friends and retain many of your old ones, but it take time to make friends. So in the interim. It is literally like uprooting a tree and planting it somewhere else. Sometimes the roots take and sometimes they do not.

How much of this is potlatch, whereby things keep building without thinking about it. HAs it happened in the military induction system, like it has in frats? Where "back in my day we were tougher!"

How would induction compare over the decades? Was there a big shift during WW2 that it was different from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, Spanish American War or WWW1?

FSU is studying this. What is myopic is that the US military has a large number of people studying Middle Eastern culture extensively, but not looking inward. I have been through induction twice. So not only do I have a data point(s), but I have measure of range. Not perhaps the best measure of variability, but a measure. The 2nd time was unprofessional.
Hint, People with less formal education did a better job. Maybe it was because they were not as full of themselves at that point in time.

I have seen extremism in the ranks, white and black. The white guys were ran out of the service with prejudice. The black ones were not. They were ignored. Austin is not going to fix it.

I hate this saying. As if it's to invoke some kind of superior retro-mindset in comparison to the present.

There's nothing wrong the subject matter, especially suicide, sexual assault, hazing (especially) and extremism (although this one seems more political and controversial).

Back in your grandfather's navy, sure, you could put your hand down someone's pants and usually get away with it or get slapped with a minor inconvenience.

Not now. So don't go on as if these things are a bad thing.

What a bad example 10:09. 32 years ago someone in my unit put their hand down another service member's underpants and was booted out. An E7, E8, O3, and O5 all went to bat for the person. They were the best person in the their highly valued MOS. The person we all agreed was confused.

Fifteen years ago a person was almost booted for DUI. It was a near run thing. Thirty years ago a drunk O3 hit a drive through speaker and nothing happened.

So things changed a long time ago. Austin merely included all these other things to so his anti-racism racism could blend in with the herd. Austin's hatchet man, BISHOP GARRISON, is the anti-Martin Luther King.

"In fact, Garrison sent a tweet saying former President Trump was a racist and that, “[i]f you support the [former] President, you support that. There is no room for nuance with this."

Austin is an ASSHOLE

I am sure China will steal the POI for these courses and use them to immediately train their own sailors.
