DW: Ukraine latest: Biden, Putin accept 'principle' of fresh talks

The French Presidency said Macron proposed a US-Russia summit to both leaders, which they accepted "the principle" of. Meanwhile, the EU chief outlined possible sanctions in case of an invasion.

DW has the latest.

US president Joe Biden and Russia's Vladimir Putin agreed to a proposal by France's Emanuel Macron to hold a US-Russia summit on Ukraine, the French Elysee Palace said.

Both Biden and Putin, whom Macron spoke to in separate phone call on Sunday, have "each accepted the principle of such a summit," the Elysee said in a statement.

"[The summit] can only be held if Russia does not invade Ukraine," it added.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov are also scheduled to meet on Thursday.

WNU Editor: I am not optimistic that this Putin-Biden summit, if it happens, will accomplish anything. There is no common ground between the two sides.

Putin is just messing around now. Biden is desperate to have something positive to say for the SOTU. Biden has nothing to offer Putin except to promise to stay out of Ukraine. That's it. If Biden really wanted to get Putin's attention, he'd have already reauthorized the Keystone Pipeline and immediately pushed to expand domestic energy production.

9 days from now

Yes, Biden and the man behind the curtain are desperate.

If these talks go to the pattern of the Obama admin, (which they will) it'll be a laundry list of give-a-ways and payoffs to a hostile government to lend the visage of a "win" to the tenant Democrat in office.

"See? I averted a war by denying Poland the acquisition of 250 M1 tanks".

and oh, by the way - the fences are going up in DC again in advance of the SOTU.

Honk Honk Washington.

American independent truckers should park their trucks during the 4 weeks around Memorial day.

They should park their trucks at home. That way no liberals can grab their coochies and cry that roads are being blocked.

It will work if the market is tight. We'll also have several high profile accidents by corporate trucking companies picking up the slack, because they are down for the system and trying to gobble up market share.

It is not unusual to see a semis parked beside a farm. Farmers have had side hustles like that for decades before some young liberals (some of them to grow up the rest of the way finally and become conservatives) coined the term side hustle.

Liberals should get out more. They did not and do not know there are such thing as trucker/farmers.

It is about time liberals get out of the way, stop micromanaging the economy into a death spiral (for fun and profit) and trying to make us into the BORG collective.

Russian battleplans call for 'overwhelming intensity of fire' on Ukraine that would cause 'tens of thousands of casualties within DAYS' as troops move within three miles of the border as Kremlin says it is 'too early' to talk about Biden-Putin summit

French president Macaroni wants to be seen diplomacing, so badly that Putin pulled a Lucy on him twice within one week or fortnight.

"wait for results and stop forecasting nonsense"

The above is a sentence fragment vainly awaiting a coherent thought.
