Haley Britzky, Task & Purpose: These are the US troops rapidly deploying to Europe to counter Russia 

"They're going to ensure the robust defense of our NATO allies." 

The Pentagon has announced 3,000 U.S. troops are being deployed or repositioned in Europe in an effort to reassure allies in the face of aggression from Russia. “I want to be very clear about something,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Wednesday during a Pentagon press conference. 

“These are not permanent moves. They are moves designed to respond to the current security environment. Moreover, these forces are not going to fight in Ukraine. They’re going to ensure the robust defense of our NATO allies.”
