Both the US and UK have slipped down the rankings of the world's most democratic countries as Covid-19 restrictions continue to curtail citizen's freedoms two years into the pandemic, according to an annual democracy index.
After a year which saw the global state of democracy slip from 5.37 in 2020 to 5.28 out of 10 in 2021, the United Kingdom fell two places, from 16 to 18, while the US dropped one place, from 25 to 26, in the Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) Democracy Index.
Afghanistan meanwhile was officially declared as the most undemocratic country by the Index, beating Myanmar and North Korea to the bottom spot, after the swift rise of the Taliban following the chaotic US withdrawal last summer.

Having had records retention training every year for a decade so my employer can comply with federal law, you get to know about federal records retention. America is a fascist state. The Romneys and McConnells of the world are no opposition.
McConnell is 79 years of age. He has reached life expectancy Every year now is literally gravy. Yet, he is afraid. Maybe he is so old that his testosterone is so low that he has no more stuffing in him and he is a pussy cat. Really the only thing the government could do is trump up some charges and go after his kids. Is that is what he is afraid of? Well he has reason to be.
McConnell's husbanding of judicial picks during the last half of Trumps term was good. But it is not enough. He is like an engine that sputters to life occasionally hums for awhile only to frequently sputter out. His soliloquy about the censuring of Kinzinger and Cheney was the last straw.
How is the FBI going after a county election clerk for not erasing election records which are supposed to be kept for 18 months to two years?
What are people in Congress doing about it? Nothing
