Elaine McCusker and Emily Coletta, National Interest: Is the U.S. Military Ready to Defend Taiwan?

Any defense of Taiwan planning must fix four barriers to succeed.

As the debate intensifies on U.S. policy related to the defense of Taiwan, it is useful to examine when and why the United States would carry out such a mission and the potential obstacles to a successful outcome. Trump kept giving money to the corrupt Afghan govt...it failed yes and there was a mess same as in Nam. There would not have been that mess had Trump not made deal with the Taliban. Stop shifting blame.

One of Donald Trump's campaign promises was to end the war in Afghanistan. Last year, he negotiated an agreement with the Taliban to withdraw all U.S. forces by May 1 of 2021. That's less than two months away. Not represented in that agreement were members of the Afghan government. They're now negotiating with the Taliban
