SKY News: Ireland's military cannot properly defend country, says 'hard-hitting' and 'blunt' report

Ireland has long been regarded by military analysts as the weak link in the defence chain of Western Europe, precipitated by decades of defence under-spending by successive governments.

Ireland's Defence Forces cannot properly defend the country against acts of aggression from conventional military forces, according to a new report which has urged a radical overhaul of the military.

I spent a couple of years in Ireland recently. It was a great experience, but also very telling. Taxes and energy prices were incredibly high, and we received a tax "discount" for being new citizens. I really don't know where all the money went as it certainly did not go to the military. I only saw the army once, and they a bunch of teens filling sandbags to staunch a river flood. I don't think the Air Force has any fighters and just one transport plane. But who is going to attack them?
