Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov Convinces Putin For More Talks As Ukraine Crisis Escalates

The comments came during meeting between Vladimir Putin and his foreign minister  

CNBC: Russia’s Lavrov calls for more talks as Ukraine crisis escalates 

 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov suggested to President Vladimir Putin on Monday that Moscow takes a diplomatic route to procure security guarantees from the West, Reuters reported. 

* It comes after U.S. National security advisor Jake Sullivan told CNN on Sunday that a Russian attack on Ukraine could happen “any day now.” 

* German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will hold talks with the presidents of Ukraine and Russia on Monday and Tuesday. 

Russia’s foreign minister has reportedly suggested to President Vladimir Putin that Moscow uses diplomacy to obtain concessions from the West, after U.S. officials warned a Russian attack on Ukraine could happen “any day now.” 

Reuters reported on Monday that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had said to Putin that the Kremlin should seek a diplomatic route toward procuring the security guarantees it has demanded, as tensions mount over its military activity at the Ukrainian border. 

Russia is demanding that Ukraine never be permitted to become a NATO member, and has said it wants the organization to roll back its presence in Eastern Europe.

As to what is my take on these talks. I do not think these talks will succeed. There is no common ground among both sides.

I wonder if Putin hasn’t backed himself into a corner. Instead of weak men capitulating to his demands, he’s plagued by dithering, indecisive old men.

this "move" made public is a way to get Putin off the nutty move he has made and back off while saving face.
