Russia's Artillery Is The Weapon That The Ukraine Army Should Be Most Fearful Of In The Event Of An Invasion

Forbes: Russian Artillery Can Lob Shells At Ukrainian Troops With 10 Seconds’ Notice

Most people have it all wrong. Visions of Russian tanks rolling across snowy Ukrainian fields, heralding a wider and surely much bloodier phase of the eight-year-old war in Ukraine, are fantasy.

It’s the artillery that will signal the escalation. Hundreds of big guns and rocket launchers spread across scores of semi-independent Russian army battalion tactical groups, each a thousand men strong.

In Russian doctrine, artillery—not tanks or infantry—is the decisive force. The other combat arms exist to position the artillery for the most devastating barrages, and to exploit the holes the guns smash in enemy defenses.

WNU Editor: David Axe's analysis is spot on. Russia's artillery is the hammer that the Russian Army will use in any invasion of Ukraine.

Anytime conventional military formations go head to head the guy with the best indirect fire plan, be it longbows or self propelled artillery, usually wins. If you fight the Russians bring lots of artillery, and five times the ammunition you think you’ll need.

Artillery is the undisputed king of battle.

In my opinion things like accurate, and highly mobile Russian heavy artillery along with tactical air pounding away with PGMs and other air tonground and CAS will likely reduce the bulk of the Ukrainian ground units into a guerilla force relatively early on if hostilities were to commence.

Just a thought game. I hope nothing ever happens.

Very true about the Intel I'd say. Having that has been a Big game changer in other conflicts and likely would be here as well.

Mostly uncontested heavy russian air power with medium to heavy weight precision, air to ground missiles and bombs will probably win the day on the ground for the most part.

However, hopefully the Turks deliver on the drones if the russians are going to go this route..

Turkish budget drones will either be destroyed by ballistic strikes or neutralised by Russian EW.
