Politico: The economic war on Russia has begun
In 1919, Soviet Russia was one of two republics to suffer a Western blockade despite no declaration of war.
More than 100 years later, Russia made history again by triggering large sanctions from the Western world over its invasion of Ukraine, even though the U.S. and its allies signal no intention of going to war on Kyiv’s behalf.
Following his decision to recognize two breakaway regions inside Ukraine as independent Monday, Russian President VLADIMIR PUTIN sent troops into the Donbas — launching a newly dangerous phase in the invasion he started nearly a decade ago.

Sanction's are always weakening a country but history shows they never had been decisive. They also are a double edge sword.
Good but not enough.
they were decisive against Japan because of it's reliance of imports, Russia is altogether a different story
