Ukraine Ambassador To The U.K. Says ‘Ukrainians Feel That They’ve Been Abandoned’

CNBC: ‘Ukrainians feel that they’ve been abandoned,’ ambassador says as crisis intensifies

* Tensions between Ukraine and Russia heightened over the weekend, after the United States warned that an invasion could be “imminent.”

* Dutch airline KLM suspended its flights into Ukraine and other companies are considering doing the same.

LONDON — Ukrainians are starting to feel “abandoned,” Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.K. told CNBC on Monday, as tensions with Russia escalate and many nations urge their citizens to leave the country.

“The problem is that Ukrainians are pushed, you know, to panic,” Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.K., said Monday. “The airlines are canceling the flights, money has been withdrawn by investors. Ukrainians feel that they’ve been abandoned,” he said in London.

WNU Editor: I got to know Vadym Prystaiko about a decade ago when he became Ukraine's Ambassador to Canada and its representative to ICAO in Montreal. A decent man who is a career diplomat. He is right in his assessment that rhetoric aside, Ukraine has been abandoned.

But I think he is missing the bigger strategic picture.

I sense there are some in Washington who are longing for a war to break out (i.e. Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland), and will use such a crisis to not only bleed Russia in a stupid war, but to also use such a conflict as a lever on Europe when it comes to U.S. policy.

time to read for you!9:23
The position comes with an extra dose of intrigue, given that it has remained empty since 2019, when President Donald J. Trump removed its last full-time occupant, Marie L. Yovanovitch. That action, which is the subject of a federal investigation, contributed to Mr. Trump’s first impeachment by Congress on charges that he abused his foreign policy leverage over Ukraine for political purposes.

U.S. officials do not dispute reports, which emerged two months ago, that Mr. Biden intends to nominate a career diplomat, Bridget Brink, the current U.S. ambassador to Slovakia. The United States sent Ms. Brink’s name to Ukraine’s government last month for customary review and approval by the host government, in a diplomatic custom known by the French term agrément, and Biden officials are eager for Kyiv’s clearance so they can submit her to the Senate for confirmation. During a visit to Kyiv on Jan. 19, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken said he “would anticipate that a nomination will be forthcoming very shortly.”

It is unclear why Ukraine’s government has not signed off on Ms. Brink. While it is not unusual for a host government to spend a few weeks vetting a potential ambassador, the timeline is frequently shorter, and diplomats say they would expect Ukraine to welcome more high-level American attention.

1000 is known intellectual idiot savant. Honestly you can drop the savant part. The paucity of their output for as long as they worked is noteworthy.

We know who it is or who is being imitated. Quoting 3 paragraphs from the NYT without quotes is exhilarating, bracing, or just sad?

Puzzle in Ukraine Crisis: Where’s the U.S. Ambassador?
https://dnyuz.com/2022/02/11/puzzle-in-ukraine-crisis-wheres-the-u-s-ambassador/

Of course the NYT had to come with a catechism (A manual giving basic instruction in a subject, usually by rote or repetition.) for the faithful after Friday's announcement that Biden's foreign policy establishment had no clothes.

Seriously, you gap a billet for 13 months? Seriously?

After Biden pulled out of Afghanistan in August pell-mell. Ukraine has been on the front burner. China, Ukraine and Afghanistan were the top 3 foreign policy issues all year. After Afghanistan fell, Ukraine was in the top two and arguably the top one.

And yet Biden gapped the billet.

The foreign government can reject an ambassador. There are things that could be done.

a) Come up with another ambassador nominee after consulting with the hoist government

If the host government is anally or a friendly government, this is not untoward.

b) Make inquiries as to why the host government does not like your nominee.

c) Lean on the government to accept the nominee. After all he that has the gold makes the rules.

Maybe the personality or anything about the nominee is not the problem. Maybe the host government has problems, major problems, with the US (especially The Democrat Party) and its policies.

Sure maybe Ukraine is corrupt. Every country has some level of corruption. It is guaranteed. We know this to be true, because you will find youths around the world spouting "It is not what you know, but who you know" and oftentimes they are right. So every country is corrupt. The degree is matters. IS Ukraine more corrupt than the US? That is debatable.

It has been alleged that foreign aid is a way to launder American tax dollars to the Washington elite and not just through military sales. The Ukrainians have seen this American corruption up close and personal. So maybe their rejection of "Biden's" pick is totally above board. They would know . They have dealt with so many Bidens and Washington elite.

Sure the Russian are corrupt and trying to corrupt Ukrainian politicians and business leaders, but that does not absolve the US.

1000 might thinks it does, but he often commits the tu quoque fallacy and many others. Is 10000 a Pollock mine detector?

Democrats since 2016 have used Russia as a menacing nation regardless of the effect on Europe’s security. Now because Biden is falling they are whipping up war fever that will cause immense human costs to all of Europe.

What an opening for Putin! He’s taking it too. Germany has to be sick of Americans selling them out for stupid domestic partisan gains. Why not forge a new order with Russia? Have Germany, France and Russia set up a security and economic sphere?

German politicians have sold out the USs for stupid domestic partisan gains. They short shrifted their military contrary to treaty obligations, so they could buy political office.
