Daily Mail: Ukraine says it has inflicted one of Russia's heaviest ever day of losses with more than 1,000 casualties: Putin's losses now stand at 2,800 troops, 80 tanks and 516 armoured vehicles as fightback continues

* Ukrainian forces claimed on Friday to have destroyed part of an airfield in south Russia in missile strike Friday

* Kyiv's forces have shot out seven Russian helicopters, destroyed at least 80 tanks, blitzed up to 10 fighter jets

 * Ukraine military far inferior to its Russian counterpart with an air defence system dating back to the Soviet era

* NATO and US have made it clear that no troops will be sent and left Ukraine military to hold off assault alone

Ukrainian forces claimed today to have inflicted one of Russia's heaviest ever day of losses with more than 1,000 casualties.

It comes as new totals by Kyiv's defence ministry put President Vladimir Putin's losses at 2,800 troops, 80 tanks, 516 armored vehicles, 10 airplanes and seven helicopters.

Update: Zelenskiy Says Ukraine Has Suffered 'Serious Losses' After Russian Air Strikes Pound Dozens Of Targets (RFE)

WNU Editor: The Russian Defense Ministry is saying the same thing on Ukraine military casualties.

I learned a long time ago to never trust casualty numbers, especially while the battle is ongoing, and definitely not in the first 48 hours of an invasion.

But there is no question in my mind that when this is all over, tens of thousands of military personnel on both sides would have been killed, and even more civilians.

The videos that I have seen in the past 24 hours on social media from both sides in Ukraine shows massive numbers of destroyed military vehicles, countless soldiers lying dead on the streets beside their burnt out armor vehicles, and destroyed buildings.

The worst that I have seen are videos from the highways between Crimea and Donbas, and long the major highway from Crimea to Odessa. I have used those highways before. That is open ground and easy picking for artillery or airstrikes, and the videos that I saw this morning show countless vehicles and tanks burnt out on the side of the highway that reminds me of the highway of death that the world saw at the end of the Kuwait war (link here).

As in the previous incursions, Georgia is a great example for that, Russia proves to be hapless on the battle field.. not glorious at all (unless Russians shoot their own in the back, like they did to advance against Germans... they peed in their pants to face the Germans and the same is likely true now)... bad show
