Ukraine Closes Its Airspace Because Of Russian Military Operations

Reuters: Ukraine closes airspace to civilian flights amid Russian military action 

(Reuters) -Ukraine closed its airspace to civilian flights on Thursday, citing a high risk to safety, while Europe's aviation regulator also warned against the hazards to flying in bordering areas of Russia and Belarus, because of military activities.

 Russian President Vladimir Putin authorised a military operation in eastern Ukraine in what appeared to be the start of war in Europe.

On its website, Ukraine State Air Traffic Services Enterprise said the country's airspace was closed to civilian flights starting from 0045 GMT on Thursday, with air traffic services suspended. 

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) said airspace in Russia and Belarus within 100 nautical miles of their borders with Ukraine could also pose safety risks.

WNU Editor: When I learned this morning that all Russian diplomatic staff were told to leave Ukraine immediately early Wednesday morning, I became 95% sure that Russia was going to invade within2 4-48 hours. But it was when I heard that Russia warned all aircraft to avoid Ukraine airspace, that is when I was 100% sure that an invasion was going to take place within a few hours .... Update #2: Airlines have been told to stay 100km away from the Belarus and Ukrainian borders .... Europe warns airlines not to fly over or near Ukraine (Reuters).
