Ukrainian troops have shot down five Russian helicopters, destroyed dozens of tanks and captured dozens of troops in the first hours since Vladimir Putin ordered his forces to invade this morning.

Kiev's military is far inferior to its Russian counterpart with an air defense system and air force dating back to the Soviet era.

But NATO and the US, despite deploying soldiers to neighboring Romania in recent months, have made it clear that no troops will be sent and left the Ukrainian military to hold off the assault alone.

I'm confused -- shouldn't Russia be having more success against Ukraine? I've heard reports of some entire Russian platoons surrendering -- as well as some photos of Russian troops who don't look like a professional standing army.

Is it a probing attack perhaps? I have no idea what a modern day "full scale invasion" looks like, but I figured it would include a lot more fighting and bombardment than what seems to be the case right now. I wonder what the strategy or ultimate goal is.

Then again, reporting lag and misinformation are ripe right now, so who knows

Lots of reports coming in of Russian troops who surrendered saying they were lied too and had no idea they were gonna invade till last minute.

Are these Russian regulars? I assumed Russia had enough men amongst those on Ukraine's border whose morale was, let's say, 'stronger' -- i.e. would follow orders irregardless of what lies were told

I sure hope the Russians are not surrendering. To me a good outcome after thing have gone kinetic that the puppet regime in DC falls and Putin and the oligarchs fall.

If Putin gets booted I would hope to see the political dirt the Russians and Ukrainians have on the Biden criminal syndicate.

In just now!
US dropped leaflets stating that any Russian soldiers who desert can have citizenship in the US. Thousands deserting and with hands raised, surrendering to Ukrainian troops or civilians

Or it's just all propaganda by the Ukraine government, Has there been any actual verification of these numbers?

We don't really know at this point unless we have information in real time from the front lines. WNU Editor has family there and he has an excellent track record of sound analysis.
