CNN: US intel indicates Russian officers have had doubts about full scale Ukraine invasion

(CNN)Intercepted communications obtained by the US have revealed that some Russian officials have worried that a large-scale invasion of Ukraine would be costlier and more difficult than Russian President Vladimir Putin and other Kremlin leaders realize, according to four people familiar with the intelligence.

Three of the sources said those officials include intelligence and military operatives.

The officials have also grumbled about their plans being discovered and exposed publicly by western nations, two of the sources said, citing the intercepted communications.

There is no evidence that these officials are opposed to the overall plan, or would revolt against Putin's orders, two of the sources said. Another source familiar with the US intelligence noted that Russia has a professional military that would be expected to effectively carry out Putin's orders.

Update: Some Russian officials fear invading Ukraine will be bloodier and tougher than Putin realizes, US intel finds (Business Insider)

WNU Editor: LOL! I can see it now. Russian military officers rushing to CIA sources and telling them in confidence that they have "doubts" about a full scale Ukraine invasion. And these same CIA sources then rushing to CNN and telling them in confidence that there is dissension in the Russian military ranks.

Editor; You are perhaps a bit naive in belittling how a signet group obtains info on foreign forces.

You think the Russians are going walk in (drivein) through that border? The Uk's have been putting in thousands of mines (russian). 2nd largest mine field in the world (korea is the biggest). Don't be surprised about anything that happens. Look for the cruise missile boats we have. 500 to a boat. That would ruin the Russian invasion. Drones, special forces, free for all.

You're the one who's naive!

One does not need to intercept Russian military communications to get to the conclusion that people in Russia are concerned on what an invasion will entail.

Russian social media is filled with people who know a lot about the military who are voicing concerns and worries. And I am willing to bet that these people are getting information from their loved ones who are in the field.

This blog has been a constant voice in explaining why an invasion will be difficult, and an occupation even harder. And I am the mild one when compared to what some are saying on Russian social media.

I'd be more worried if they had no doubts about it.

Finally, an honest comment by Caecus.

Editor; the issue was not about the Russian people but rather officers in the Russian military

That's not what US intelligence officers said!

Another attempt at 6:59. Parrot got smarter. Parrot only went with 3 paragraphs.

"Intercepted communications"

On the positive side, more is given than Ned Price's tautologies during at the State Department's presser.

But someone in the DoD or elsewhere could have just as easily lied to the CNN reporters. When the Polish and the British cracked Enigma in WW2 did they let the German's know? Of course not.

It is possible and perhaps reasonable to to let your opponent know that you cracked their encryption to avoid a war. Maybe.

Or it could be a internal propaganda campaign by the White House and the Beltways against the the US citizens.

This is one of the most pathetic and self serving screeds I have ever read. Only an Intel wannabe could come up with this.
