China had oil. Just nowhere near enough.

"China produces 4,905,070.87 barrels per day of oil (as of 2016) ranking 4th in the world."

China Crude Oil Production

he impact of the petroleum industry in China has been increasing globally as China ranks seventh for oil production and second in crude oil consumption in the world.[1][2]

Wikipedia:
China imported a record 6.7m barrels a day (b/d) of oil in 2015 and was forecast "to overtake the U.S. as the world’s biggest crude importer in 2016"

Check out Xinjiang. There is a big black blob there. No way China is giving that up.

"China’s dependence on crude oil imports has been growing in recent years as its domestic production has faltered, and the world’s top oil importer covered 73.4 percent of its oil demand with imported oil in the first half of 2020."

Yep.

Great partners there. I think China will eventually move on eastern Siberian resources after Russia has bled itself dry in the SW.

But that's well down the road. China has got to know there is no better time than NOW, under a Biden presidency, to seize Taiwan.

Well, China have to support Russia now because China will need Russian support (weapons and spare parts) when the Taiwan war will come.
