Vladimir Putin is thinking about using weapons of mass destruction in Ukraine, President Joe Biden has warned, because his 'back is against the wall' after the initial phase of his invasion spectacularly failed.
Biden said that warnings out of Moscow that Ukraine possesses biological and chemical weapons is a 'clear sign' that Putin is considering using 'both of those', following a well-established pattern of Russian disinformation where accusations are used to provide cover for the Kremlin's own actions.
Russia has recently accused the US of storing WMDs in Europe - something Biden said is 'simply not true, I guarantee you' - and of funding bioweapons labs in Ukraine. America acknowledges funding Ukrainian labs, but says they are used to detect disease outbreaks and for bio-defence.

Biden blathering aside, if Ukraine had any, they were destroyed, Russia is trying to close in on the stock piles or Ukraine is moving or used them.
Russia had moles in the military. They would know where the purported stockpiles were.
Russia could have destroyed them already as they have hit military installation hard. If stockpiles were hit then there could be secondary casualties. See the book "Disaster at Bari".
If Ukrainians were afraid of losing the stock pile due to air strike or overrun, they would have been tempted to use them. No reports.
How would the Ukrainians move the chemical weapons when rods are subjected to interdiction by air especially with the les whine Ukrainian military?
Russian accusations do not stand up.

My take: US officials know that Azov has taken control of some of the chemical/biological weapons. While they are now integrated within the Ukrainian military they still operate independently of the MOD according to their own organizational structure and, like any rational actor in their position, they're holding onto them for leverage.
Unlike in Syria where Obama was practically telling HTS exactly what they needed to do in order to trigger an intervention, we don't actually want to do that in Ukraine. At the same time we don't have the capability or political will to intervene against our own proxy forces in order to secure the weapons.
So instead we get daily reminders that Putin is about to use them to build deniability in the event that we wake up one day to the news that a terrible outbreak has happened after a Russian missile strikes their hiding spot.

I do imagine Azov will continue to exist long past your 3 month expiration date however. They're flush with money and weapons and have an immense amount of friendly territory to operate within around western Ukraine and friendly baltic states.

There are 3000 Azov fighters in Mariupol. That does not constitute the totality of their organization. Nowhere close. My speculation isn't to be read as fact, I never proposed it as such. I also never implied that they intended to use chemical weapons. I speculated that in the Ukrainian theater, where Russian forces are hitting upwards of 200 targets a day, if there is a stockpile of chemical weapons in Ukraine (which most sides seem to have agreed on at some point) that it's a matter of time before it eats an iskander missile.
After two categorically proven attempts at a chemical weapon false flag in Syria, which the permanent washington establishment feverishly tried to capitalize off of before the investigations could conclude, I no longer trust them at their word on the subject.
