"Moment Russian soldier 'surrenders with TANK in return for $10,000 and Ukrainian citizenship after his colleagues ran off and his commander threatened to shoot him' "
Is the surrender true? IDK. The tank is a T-72 B3, which means it has upgrades to keep it relevant.
The tank is far away, but I do not see any reactive armor on the turret. It would be on the forward part of the turret, but at least an upper square corner should be seen. Here is my point. I have a healthy respect for Russian tanks. You might even say tank fear. The tank in the picture looks dilapidated. Since this was a front line tank and it is missing the bells and whistles I wonder what t the tanks in cold storage look like.
Also, I would think spec ops or CIA would get the serial numbers from the tanks. Serial number estimated German tank production in WW2 better than spies did.
If I were an American spy I would let the Ukrainians know that the serial numbers were taken so that the Ukrainians would no lie about Russian armor casualties.
Further, the Russian was given $10,000. I don't think the Ukrainians have any money to give. I think it is American money. It is a wise investment. Also it is the best way to end the war. It beats killing them. The aim of war is not to kill as many young people as you can, but that is what usually ends up happening. The aim of war usually is to enforce your political will. That is what Putin is doing. That is what we are doing right back. Basic Clausewitz.
Assuming the story is true WTH? How does a single tank make a break for it? Are not there other tanks in the squadron that can shoot it, if a soldier defects?
Who sends tanks into battle without the mutual support of infantry?
