U.S. Senator Marco Rubio Says The Use Of A Russian Tactical Nuclear Weapon In Ukraine Could Trigger NATO's Article 5 And Retailiation Against Russia

NBC: Senators mull the unthinkable: Putin detonating a nuclear bomb

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said such an attack could trigger NATO's Article 5, which requires a collective defense in the event of an attack on any member.

WASHINGTON — Senators reacted with alarm to a new report that suggested Russian President Vladimir Putin could deploy a small, targeted nuclear bomb as his troops get bogged down in a costly, drawn-out battle against defiant Ukrainian fighters.

One key senator, Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said he believed such an attack could force NATO allies, including the United States, to invoke their collective defense under Article 5 of the alliance's charter and retaliate against Russia — especially if nuclear fallout drifts over the Ukrainian border and kills or sickens civilians living in Poland or other NATO countries.

“As you detonate a nuclear weapon inside of Ukraine depending on what it is they detonate, even in a demonstration, that would spread radioactive material that would cross borders potentially," said Rubio, the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who frequently tweets his analysis of the Russian invasion. "If radioactive material blows across the Polish border, they would argue they’ve been attacked,” he added.

WNU Editor: If Russia uses a tactical nuclear device in Ukraine that produces fallout that drifts across NATO countries .... invoking NATO's Article 5 and retaliating against Russia will quickly escalate into a major nuclear conflict between the two sides within a day or two.

Well, if NATO is not reacting to that, it will give the green light to Russia for doing more. I am not sure that Putin will take this risk.

I'd be willing to bet more than one of the member states would argue against an article 5 violation in the event of windborne fallout. Everyone talks tough until it actually comes time to volunteer as a legitimate nuclear target.

Of course USA can do whatever it wants regardless of NATO, but good luck onboarding states like Turkey, Hungary, Greece, etc. on a technical violation.

What's wrong with these fucking Western politicians? They are literally drooling for a world war and an exchange of nuclear weapons. If this indeed happens, I hope the people will remember them.

Winds blow from the west to the east. So any nukes in Ukraine will blow right into Russia.

Not in Europe. I was in France when Chernobyl accident happens and the west of Europe received radioactive clouds from Ukraine.

So long as Russia ponies up tens of billions for the cost of treating those sickened, we could consider that compensation and being made whole in a legal sense.

Otherwise, Russia gets it. China too.

Rubio doesn't have a say in the matter.🤷

Senate has a say about treaties.

They have say about the conduct of a president.

As representatives, if you see a large block of congress people dissatisfied, it could be that many voters are too.

Sure a president can ignore them for a longtime, but sometimes it is not wise.

The voters are already pissed off about biden. He will never be reelected. Trump images he will be I think trump will too busy being in jail. Rubio has a clear trip to the whitehouse if we survive till then. vlad has lost it.

"I think trump will too busy being in jail. "

I think so too. But on the other hand I have thought that after several breathless liberal announcements.

The NYC DA investigation fizzle. They have about 30 working days.

The NY AG still has something going on and has for 4 months? 6 months? Will Letitia keep working the Trump angle until Cuomo wins her office in November? I do not know if the NY AG will succeed. Things are very corrupt.

I will vote for De Santis over Rubio any day of the week.

Conventional kinetic retaliation against a Russian nuclear strike would most likely NOT result in a nuclear exchange.
If nato pressed the attack to Moscow or attempted regime change ..perhaps.

Did Rubio invent the rubic cube?

fazman said...

Exactly, some would have the West do nothing under any circumstances

If Trump sits out 2024, it won't be Rubio elected in his place. It will be DeSantis.

If China was using conventional kinetic munitions from Canada on US targets you would be shitting and pissing your pants crying for a nuclear strike on Beijing. To pretend otherwise is the most disingenuous thing I've ever read.

The most disingenuous thing is your post (10:27).
