The Guardian: White House faces oil standoff with Saudi Arabia and UAE as prices soar

Analysis: Disputes with Biden administration mean Riyadh and Abu Dhabi are likely to drive hard bargain

Joe Biden’s hardline stance on Russia has won him widespread plaudits, but with the most serious oil shock in decades now a reality, the US president’s attempt to cushion the blowback continues to meet resistance from the two allies he needs most.

Saudi Arabia’s de facto leader, Mohammed bin Salman, and his counterpart in the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed, are yet to agree to a phone call with the west’s most powerful man – a scenario all but unthinkable during previous administrations.

An incomprehensible foreign policy.

The Biden admin is too mixed up with and dependent upon the Iranians for them to go against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. They'd rather virtue signal fake outrage for the Iran-backed Houthis than cajole additional oil output from the Saudis. Gotta get that New Iran Deal! Oh, and then the whole Russians-broker-the-deal thing.

The US shouldn't even be in this place. We should not have to be doing what we are doing - begging Saudi, Iran and VEN to pump more crude to save Joe Biden's corrupt incompetent ass.

If Biden hadn't hobbled US oil production in his first days in office. If he hadn't created an artificial shortage of crude. If he hadn't increased the price per BBL about $10 every month since Jan 2021. If he had not set in motion an inflation tsunami. If he hadn't pumped billions of dollars into the Russian oil economy and out of ours, we would not be in the geopolitical shitfest we currently find ourselves in.

Where's the clown Juan Guaido these days. I think he outlived his usefulness.

What is his woke card broke?

Juan Guaido is a socialist. He is not a socialist in the same vein as Maduro, because he has not tasted power or he has morals.

There are people in the State Department, who care about Juan Guaido and Venezuela, but they have been put on the back burner. If you really think about it, it shows the lower than vaunted IQ of many people in Washington. Consider the definition of IQ and consider they forgot about him.

In Joe Biden's defense, Joe Biden might not have forgotten him. He might just be ignoring him. It is one of those mind over matter things. Joe does not mind, because Juan Guaido does not matter. Venezuela is broke, so Juan Guaido cannot do much for Joe, if Juan Guaido came into power. So Joe put Juan out if his (Joe's) mind.

What are they supposed to do? Negotiate an oil agreement with some USAID puppet who doesn't have a single barrel to sell? Try and demand that he be included in talks with Maduro? Why? They're the ones with leverage right now, not us.

The US has leverage. It foolishly does not use it.

Obama is doubling down on the Green Deal.
