Finland And Sweden Considering Joining NATO (Update)

Reuters: Russia says it would have to 'rebalance' if Finland and Sweden join NATO

LONDON (Reuters) - Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday that if Finland and Sweden joined NATO then Russia would have to "rebalance the situation" with its own measures.

Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, which it says aims among other things to degrade Ukraine's military potential and prevent it becoming a bridgehead for a NATO attack, has prompted the two Nordic countries to consider joining the U.S.-led alliance.

If the two countries join, "we'll have to make our western flank more sophisticated in terms of ensuring our security," Peskov told Britain's Sky News.

Again, Sweden will never join.

But Finland probably will if Russia continue with those adolescent threats.

Putin has already thrown a long-standing balance out the window. So Putin wants to remain a threat of dominance in Scandinavia? He alluded to nuclear threat. Putin forced Finland and Sweden to cling to the West. No country will EVER trust again that Putin won't attack them.

I don't support it very much but if they do, better make Sure they pay their minimum dues of 2 percent GPD on defense.

I'm inclined to think this territory grab by putin has blown up in his face.
I fully support the continuation of weapons shipments to Ukraine some of which are Russian weapons.
A more sensible response would be a vote by Ukrainians on what THEY want to do with their future. Of course such a suggestion would be ignored and it would be just another irritant to putin to deal with on the world stage. If he weren't as upset by the unimpressive results of the initial attempt to bully his way into another land grab this situation could be smoothed out.
I think invading Crimea in 2014 was an indication of a head problem with the man. Stalin's pre-war and post war attempts at creating barriers for imagined behavior against Russia by the Allies were a reflection of his need to be something other than what he was. Communism was not acceptable to the countries taken over by the guy after WWII but he had a faulty view of what he could pull off after WWII.
This is my view of the current behavior the world now experiences.

Putin's Russia has had a major setback as an international major nation. It has now what a few smaller nations have: nuke ability to destroy the world and itself.
