Summit News: Americans Are “In Charge” of the War Says French Journalist Who Returned From Ukraine
“I found myself facing the Pentagon.” A French journalist who returned from Ukraine after arriving with volunteer fighters told broadcaster CNews that Americans are directly “in charge” of the war on the ground.
The assertion was made by Le Figaro senior international correspondent Georges Malbrunot. Malbrunot said he had accompanied French volunteer fighters, two of whom had previously fought against ISIS.
“I had the surprise, and so did they, to discover that to be able to enter the Ukrainian army, well it’s the Americans who are in charge,” said Malbrunot.

Zero chance the nationalists take direct orders from anyone except their own political heads. They openly say to Zelensky's face that they don't answer to him, so while I'm sure they're happy to accept US intel and support there's no way a pentagon official could command a unit of them to surrender, for instance.
I don't doubt the pentagon has direct control over regular Ukrainian forces however. But if that's true then I have to question the quality of leadership over there, especially in regards to the handling of Mariupol.
According to the surrendered marines, the command came to break through they were "told by their leadership that help was coming towards them." Moreover, they were ordered to head to the village of Zachatovka, which is the wrong direction to go to link back up with Ukrainian forces, and has long been under Russian control.
So either pentagon officials made a huge mistake sending these guys into certain death, or the politicians in Kiev didn't want them to be taken prisoner and issued suicidal orders with that intent.

A military mission in a foreign country at war is quite normal. Chiang Kai-Shek had American, German and Soviet advisors (all at the same time!) when fighting Japan (and earlier had Italian as well). France had one in Poland during the Polish-Soviet War (both Maxime Weygand and DeGaulle were members). They also had one in Greece during the Balkan Wars. The Soviet Union had one during the Spanish Civil War (albeit with "volunteers"). Yet at those times, those countries were not at war with the opponents. And there have been many, many others.
Some military missions occur during wartime when both parties are at war with the same opponent. But it's usually the case when one side is simply supporting the other, but doesn't intend to enter the war.
I am sure there is plenty of training and advice that is going on. And Zelensky and Ukrainian Generals are following a lot of it. The Americans and British have a lot of expertise. But they are not in charge, and the Ukrainians are making their own decisions.

Why would Americans be "in charge" of volunteers?
- To vet them so there is not another missile attack on a barracks due to a mole.
- To weed out wingnuts, who might unsuitable and get their units killed?
The Americans are merely doing what the Russians have been doing in Donbas for 8 years. The Russians provided Russian and and Syrian mercs to Donbas in addition to their own active military forces.
Where di we learn that Russia was disappearing Donbas politico-military leaders, who got to uppity or who might be open peace negotiations? Why here at WNU!
