EWN/AFP: Macron warns of 'difficult scenes' to come in Ukraine's Donbas

"This war is unfortunately not going to stop in the coming days," Macron told RTL radio, adding that he saw little chance of "diplomatic concessions" from Russian President Vladimir Putin anytime soon.

PARIS - French President Emmanuel Macron said Friday that he expects Russian forces to step up their attacks in the eastern Donbas region of Ukraine in the coming weeks, leading to further "difficult scenes" after the reported atrocities against civilians near Kiev.

"This war is unfortunately not going to stop in the coming days," Macron told RTL radio, adding that he saw little chance of "diplomatic concessions" from Russian President Vladimir Putin anytime soon.

Macron acknowledged like other Western leaders that Putin's retreat from areas near Kyiv could presage a focus on capturing areas in the east and south to create a land link between Crimea and the Moscow-backed separatist statelets of Donetsk and Lugansk in Donbas.

WNU Editor: Watched a few hours ago a bunch of commentators on France 24 talking about the war and specifically on President Macron's warnings on the Donbas. One of the commentators made a remark that stuck out for me. She basically said (and I am paraphrasing) .... President Macron is privy to all of the intelligence that is coming out from the war. For him to make such a comment in a public forum is an indication on how precarious the military situation is for Ukraine in the upcoming battle for Donbas.

I do not know what is the status of the Ukraine army. I do know they have been fighting valiantly for the past few weeks inflicting heavy losses on the Russian military while also suffering heavy losses. I also know that if the Russian army does succeed in the battle that many are now expecting in the Donbas, President Macron's warnings will become true.

"2022 French presidential election.

The first round of the 2022 French presidential election will be held on 10 April 2022. Should no candidate win a majority of the vote in the first round, a run-off will be held between the top two candidates on 24 April 2022.

Macron can be wrong, but after the 24th it matters naught. If he lies to look like he is wise, in the loop and stern, it might give enough percentage points to go over the top.

After wards he has 2 to 4 years to do puff pieces, lockdowns, whatever a velvet glove dictator needs.

It's looking more and more like the NATO advisors that the Ukrainians have been trying to extract out of Mariupol are French. First there were the claims by DNR officials that French diplomats requested airspace access and were denied, then the testimony from the flight engineer of the second downed helicopter claimed as much, and more recently a handful of french foreign legion badges and berets were collected from the aftermath of a firefight. Macron might have more reason to stay up to date on Ukraine than most assume.
