Human Rights Watch says deaths during anti-jihadist operation in Moura ‘the worst atrocity in Mali in a decade’

Suspected Russian mercenaries participated in an operation with Mali’s army in March in which about 300 civilian men were allegedly executed over five days, Human Rights Watch (HRW) says.

Eyewitnesses and local community leaders said hundreds of men were rounded up and killed in small groups during the anti-jihadist operation on 23 March in the central town of Moura.

The rural town of about 10,000 inhabitants is in the Mopti region, a hotspot of jihadist activity that has intensified and spread to neighbouring countries in the Sahel region.

300 civilians massacred? More likely 300 Islamic fighters/supporters.

Just curious, where is the western outrage and the news stories when Boko Harem massacres hundreds of Christian believers? The answer: the corrupt west and the media doesn't care when Christians are murdered.

300 is a nice round number. So they are estimating, because they do not have sources close to the action? So for all we know HRW engaged in a game of "Telephone".

As to 5:09 fist two sentences. Al Qaeda like Timothy McVeigh had no compunction against blowing up nursery schools.

"Nursery - Oklahoma City Bombing 19 of the 168 people who died were children. The daycare was located on the second floor and filled with smiling little faces running around. Only six children survived the brutal bombing that McVeigh detonated. These are a few of their stories"

One was Philip T. Hayes, a 20-year veteran of 217 who had retired from the department and gone to work as a safety specialist at the World Trade Center. Before he died, Hayes saved a group of children at a nursery school in one of the towers. There wasn't much time, so he coaxed the kids into a shopping cart. He told them it was a game.

Before drones, before Afghanistan, before Iraq, Al Qaeda and other Islamic jihadis never had any problem with murdering children, women, elderly or other civilians.

Muslim apologists might argue that things are so intertwined that they cannot avoid such targets. What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. If there were civilians among those 3000, they were too intertwined to be able to avoid.
