Newsweek: Moldova Explosions as Transnistria Communication Towers Blown Up

The prospect of the war in Ukraine pulling in neighboring Moldova has been increased after two antennas that broadcast Russian radio were blown up in its breakaway region of Transnistria.

Transnistria's Interior Ministry said the explosions at the radio-broadcast center took place at around 7 a.m. Tuesday, in the village of Mayak in the Grigoriopolsky district, about 30 miles north of the region's capital Tiraspol.

It did not specify a cause and said that no one was injured. Images of the antennae lying on the ground were shared on social media and added to speculation that the Russian-speaking enclave could become the next flashpoint in Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

WNU Editor: Both Modova and Ukraine are calling this Russian false flag operations .... Explosions in Transnistria have the 'signature' of Russian military intelligence, former Moldova defense minister says (Business Insider). The problem that I have with that claim is that Russia is not in the position to defend this Russian-speaking region from an incursion by Ukrainian forces even if they wanted to. My gut is telling me that this is an attempt by Ukraine (and others) to internationalize the conflict by dragging in Moldova.

There are also reports from Russian media that Romanian military personnel are already in Moldova dressed in Moldovan military uniforms. I am skeptical of these reports. Moldova does not want to get involved in this war. But if there is a Ukraine and Moldovan military move to seize Transnistria in the coming days/weeks, it will not only open-up a second front, but it will also be the first time that Russian military forces are directly battling NATO military forces. Albeit Romanian military personnel dressed in Moldovan military outfits.

One more note. These attacks in Transnistria are happening the day after US Secretary of State Blinken and US Defense Secretary Austin left Kyiv. You have to wonder if the US green-lighted this operation.
