Russia's Ambassador To U.S. Reveals Why Ukraine War Began, How It Could End

Newsweek: Russia's Ambassador to U.S. Reveals Why Ukraine War Began, How It Could End

A month and a half into Russia's war in Ukraine, Moscow's envoy to Washington has outlined to Newsweek his country's reasoning for launching what it has deemed a "special military operation" against its neighbor, and detailed the demands that, if satisfied, could end the conflict involving Europe's two largest countries.

And as Kyiv (spelled Kiev by Russia) accused the Kremlin of conducting "war crimes" to the extent of "genocide," Russia's ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, argued it was Ukraine's alleged ethnic cleansing, along with its bid to join the U.S.-led NATO Western military alliance, that fueled the war.

WNU Editor: I am not surprised by what the Ambassador said. I am surprised Newsweek, albeit a small news site, gave the Ambassador a forum to say it.

"Russia's Ambassador to U.S. Reveals Why Ukraine War Began" That happens when you threaten a country and/or actually invade it.

Barring a war or severe threat of war, has anyone seen weapons given away?

"President Vladimir Zelensky announced Kiev's plans to acquire nuclear weapons" And?

Tends to happen, when you give nukes up and then you get invaded in 2014.

"President Zelensky ... did question Kyiv's non-nuclear status at a speech delivered at the Munich Security Conference just days before the Russian incursion"

You get invaded and then 8 years later you question why you ever gave up nukes? Can you blame the guy? I can't.

"President Zelensky (who spells his first name Volodymyr) did question Kyiv's non-nuclear status at a speech delivered at the Munich Security Conference just days before the Russian incursion"

Basically, the Russian Ambassador is arguing R2P. It is a point that needs to be looked into. Obama did R2P in Libya, so....

Then again Russia did goad the ethnic Russians in Donbas and told them that they had their back. They sent weapons and mercs.

Most revolutions do not succeed without outside help. Donbas had way more help than the American revolutions did. America did not get help until over two years into the war. The it got France and later Span to help. Donbas scored an anti aircraft missile system capable of shooting down passenger jets. It just happened to be in the local national guard armory. Where is a serial number, when you need one?

Putin's former chief economic adviser says the number of Russians living in poverty will probably double, maybe triple, in the wake of the Ukraine war
