The Russia-Ukraine War May Push NATO To Increase Military Spending

19FortyFive: Bad News for Russia: NATO Is Going to Spend Billions More On Defense

Russia has spawned a reboot of the NATO alliance: What Obama tried to accomplish with appeals and Trump with threats is now happening without a great deal of either from President Joe Biden: amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, NATO member nations are significantly ramping up their defense spending levels.

Days after the Feb. 24 invasion, Germany announced plans to increase its defense funding, with Chancellor Olaf Scholz committing 100 billion Euros in 2022 to beef up its military and promising to invest more than 2% of gross domestic product – the NATO baseline – into defense moving forward. At least seven other European nations have followed suit with defense spending increases: Belgium, Romania, Poland, Italy, Norway, Denmark and – the only non-NATO member on the list – Sweden.

WNU Editor: Only seven European nations have committed to greater spending .... Seven European nations have increased defense budgets in one month. Who will be next? (Breaking Defense). I am surprised by this low number. I actually expected more countries to publicly announce an increase in their defense budgets by now.

The headline says "Bad News for Russia: NATO Is Going to Spend Billions More On Defense", but anyone who can look behind government/media propaganda will recognize that NATO's big bucks are going for offensive capacity, not defensive. Wake up, people!

A good offense is a good defense. Any position no matter how well defended will eventually fall unless one has the ability to go on offense and actually threaten their adversary. Assuming NATO actually is increasing it's offensive capabilities perhaps some people are finally waking up.

Hey jerk off, weapons are generally considered offensive.

When they are purely defensive like the an missile defense against missiles fired by Iran, the oligarchy in Moscow still objects.

Take your fellow troll with you.

The countries that aren't bombing their post-coup breakaway regions for 8 years aren't worried about a Russian invasion. What a shock.

Worthy of KGB/FSB agiptrop.

It is illogical mon so many levels.

Crimea "broke away" eight years ago. Russia used actual Russian troops.

There are actual Russian troops, Russian mercenaries Wagoner and Syrian mercenaries in the break away region.

The way it us, is that you will be brought up on charges of aiding and abetting treason on both sides of the Atlantic. You could be hung twice.

Yes, but it illustrates the inherent dishonesty of the western governments. They call if "defense" but in reality, it is "offense". It shows that every word that comes out of a government beaurecrats mouth is a LIE. Never forget that.
