CNBC: WHO says it’s closely watching China as the country grapples with its worst Covid surge
* Almost all of Shanghai’s 26 million residents remain in lockdown about a week after a two-phase shutdown in the city was supposed to end.
* China is grappling with its worst Covid outbreak since the virus was discovered in Wuhan over two years ago.
* Though low by most countries’ caseloads, mainland China reported a record 1,184 new, symptomatic and 26,411 asymptomatic Covid cases on Sunday, according to its National Health Commission.
The World Health Organization on Monday said it is monitoring a major surge in Covid cases in mainland China, an outbreak that local officials have attributed to the more contagious omicron BA.2 subvariant.
Dr. Kate O’Brien, director of WHO’s immunization and vaccine program, said the agency is in contact with public health authorities in China about its Covid resurgence.
WHO officials said they need to monitor the effectiveness of regional lockdowns and the country’s vaccines, but said it doesn’t have enough information to make an assessment yet.

Xi has a big problem....you'll never get to Covid Zero. It took ecades to kill smallpox. CCP can't do this for much longer. And that admits a CCP failure.
The COVID response takes everything to the extreme, everything to the logical conclusion of politicians lying, overpromising and ruling by fiat.
It would be better if politicians thought of themselves as no different than a plumber or electrician.
You cannot defeat COIVID until you defeat old age. You cannot defeat old age until you defeat inflammation , which is a basic biological mechanic. You can make good headway in fighting COVID by a war on obesity. You can make gains against obesity with safe street, but politicians are about to tackle that problem.
Case in point? The California Night Club shooting was gang related. The shooters were Black. So Democrats dropped it. Democrats will talk about gun violence, but not about gangs.

The comment was not to say Blacks are inherently bad. That is not a true statement. The point was very pointedly to say that Democrats dropped it, because the offenders were Black.
It is an indictment of Democrat leaders and Democrat faithful.
Patrick Moynihan stated that whites are 20 years behind blacks. Meaning the dysfunction you see in the black community you will also see in the white community 20 years later. The Democrat Party is an equal opportunity destroyer.
