Does President Biden Know How Dangerous His Drift To War Against Russia Is Becoming?

Thomas L. Friedman, Asharq Al-Awsat/New York Times: The War Is Getting More Dangerous for America, and Biden Knows It

If you just followed news reports on Ukraine, you might think that the war has settled into a long, grinding and somewhat boring slog. You would be wrong.

Things are actually getting more dangerous by the day.

For starters, the longer this war goes on, the more opportunity for catastrophic miscalculations — and the raw material for that is piling up fast and furious. Take the two high-profile leaks from American officials this past week about US involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war:

WNU Editor: I do not know what Thomas Friedman is talking about. President Biden and his senior officials have said more than once in public that regime change in Russia is necessary, and are backing this policy objective with tens of billions in military aid coupled with providing real-time intelligence and direction to the Ukraine military. The White House knows how dangerous the situation is. That is why President Biden is backing  the White House assessment that in the current situation there will be no direct blow-back from Russia. An assessment that I disagree with.

And as for the US intelligence leaks that has gotten people like Thomas Friedman in a tizzy .... it is too late. The US public may be focused on other issues right now (inflation, recession, crime, etc.), but Russians now see themselves s being a country that is at war with the U.S.. These leaks are only validating what they already know.

But while I am worried on what Russia would do next, I am becoming increasingly more worried on what the U.S. would do if the military situation continues to deteriorate for Ukraine. After saying that the West cannot accept a Putin victory, what would the U.S. do if it looks like the Russian military will achieve a breakthrough in eastern Ukraine that many independent military analysts are now projecting? This is the discussion that Thomas Friedman should be posting on.
