Assailant Tries To Murder New York Republican Gubernatorial Hopeful Lee Zeldin At Rochester Campaign Rally

* Photos from the scene saw authorities recover a sharp pair of brass knuckles 

* New York's GOP chairman blamed Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul for the attack after her campaign posted details about Zeldin's event 

New York gubernatorial hopeful Rep. Lee Zeldin was nearly stabbed at a campaign rally on Thursday in Perinton, New York, a small town just outside of Rochester. 

The Republican was in the midst of a speech at VFW location about bail reform as part of his 'United to Fire Hochul' campaign when he was confronted. 

Video from the scene shows the suspect enter the stage from slightly behind Zeldin, walk calmly up to him and eventually raise up his arm towards the candidate's upper body.
