* Gingrich was last speaker to visit Taiwan 

* Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also encouraged Pelosi to go 

* Pelosi has not publicly confirmed the trip 

* China has made it clear they do not want her to go 

* U.S. officials worried China could take action against island nation soon 

Republicans have thrown their support behind Speaker Nancy Pelosi's reported upcoming trip to Taiwan despite China warning of consequences if she visits. 

Newt Gingrich, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska are among those encouraging Pelosi to visit the island - a proposed trip that is causing a rift between the speaker and President Joe Biden's administration. 

It's unusual show of support from Republicans for the Democratic speaker and comes as amid concern China could move against the island nation soon.
