Contractor In US Navy’s Worst Corruption Scandal Has Fled House Arrest

Daily Mail: Crooked Malaysian contractor 'Fat Leonard' - who boasted about bribing US admirals with prostitutes in exchange for secret shipping routes - disappears after cutting off ankle monitor and skipping out on house arrest in San Diego three weeks before his sentencing

* Fat Leonard, aka Leonard Francis, was in San Diego on house arrest awaiting sentencing for fraud and corruption but he has skipped town

* He was arrested in 2013 but has since cooperated with the US authorities against the Navy officers and admirals who took his bribes

* He was due to be sentenced in three weeks time but has now gone on the run

* San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force and Naval Criminal Investigative Service have begun a high-profile search but he may well have crossed into Mexico

* Francis was a defense contractor who infiltrated Navy ships in Manila, supplied the officers with riches and prostitutes, then asked them for favors

* The investigation steadily escalated into the biggest fraud case in Navy history

* For years Francis bribed 'scores' of Navy officers throughout the ranks with prostitutes and luxury goods worth millions

* It was all in exchange for securing contracts with his company Glenn Defense Marine Asia, which charged astronomical prices for its services

A Malaysian military contractor who pleaded guilty to orchestrating the 'Fat Leonard' corruption scandal and was under house arrest in San Diego is now on the run after cutting off his GPS monitoring ankle bracelet over the weekend, federal authorities said.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Omar Castillo said Leonard Glenn Francis removed the tracker on Sunday.

After police officers found Francis' home empty, the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service began a high-profile search.
