The Guardian: Progressive Democrats urge Joe Biden to shift strategy and directly engage with Russia
A letter signed by 30 representatives from the left of the party puts pressure on US president’s Ukraine strategy two weeks out from midterm elections
A group of US congressional Democrats have urged president Joe Biden to pursue direct engagement with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, while still maintaining current military and economic commitments to Kyiv.
“Given the destruction created by this war for Ukraine and the world, as well as the risk of catastrophic escalation, we … believe it is in the interests of Ukraine, the United States, and the world to avoid a prolonged conflict,” the 30 Democratic members write in the letter to Biden.

WNU Editor: President Biden is not going to comply with the Progressive wing of the party and enter into direct talks with Russia. To do so will be seen by many as a capitulation by Washington to Moscow's demands. And with the Midterm elections only two weeks ago, to me it is a given that President Biden is not going to give the optics of a US President caving into the Kremlin's demands.

Garland Nixon was talking about this. ~And to think that the Progressive Caucus--supposedly the most peace-positive group in Congress--is now to the right of Donald Trump on this issue.~
(only 30 out of 90 in the caucus would even sign this weak letter (which they are now walking back anyway.))
