France 24: At least 50 people killed in Chad protests, UN urges probe
Deadly clashes between police and demonstrators protesting at the military’s grip on power erupted in Chad on Thursday, claiming at least 50 lives, including members of the security forces. The United Nations condemned the lethal use of force against the protesters and demanded a probe be launched.
Hundreds of demonstrators turned out in the capital N’Djamena and elsewhere to mark the date when the military had initially promised to hand over power—a period that has been extended for another two years.
