Russian Defense Ministry Says The British Navy Was Involved In Damaging The Nord Stream Pipelines

UK forces participated in an operation which damaged Europe's energy security, Moscow claims Units of the British Navy were involved in a "terrorist attack", which destroyed the key Nord Stream gas pipelines, the Russian Defence Ministry alleged on Saturday.

Writing on its official Telegram channel, the ministry alleged that Royal Navy operatives “took part in planning, supporting and implementing” the plot to blow up the infrastructure in September. It did not provide any direct evidence to support its assertion.

It was also said that this trip was necessary because there was a fear in London that "U.S. - U.K. communications were compromised".

You do not have to be a genius to infer from this admission that it looks like Russian intelligence has penetrated the U.K. security establishment and government.

So is the evidence that the Kremlin has implicating the UK in the Nord stream attack? I do not know. But I do know that Moscow is convinced that the the UK is responsible, and if they are responsible, it would tell me that the Kremlin also believes that the US "green-lighted" it.

As to the bigger question. Will Russia retaliate?

Unfortunately yes, and I predict it will probably be on a critical piece of infrastructure.

I also expect severe warnings from both London and Washington in the next day or two warning Russia on the consequences if they retaliate on the West's infrastructure.

Brit SF are about the best in the world. They are used by the brits to do ops the Americans want done but do not want to be attached to. my guess is that The Brits were the workmen of this project. But the requester and supporting entity was the US as the brits would never do this without US consent

Russia has no motive to blow that pipeline. It was either an explosion due to poor maintenance, it was under pressure with explosive gas; or it was a military operation.
The big loser is Germany.

Moscow's down for maintenance excuse for non-delivery per contract was wearing thin.

So they blew up their own pipeline as a means of economic warfare against Germany.

The Germans could have taken them to court over breaking their delivery contract.

Non delivery of oil due to maintenance issues during the winter would really have played poorly with freezing Germans.

With a blown up pipeline Moscow can attempt to blame NATO countries. So there is a logical reason to suspect Moscow.

My bets are 70% NATO and 30% Moscow. I am not convinced either way.

Agree, but lm 70% Moscow, way to break contracts and shift attention away from losses to the u.s

Russia won't retak7ate, they have yet to deliver on any threats. The bear has been shown to be a cub, poor training, poor leadership, poor weapon performance, low morale, etc etc.
They dare not retaliate to any nato actio as they know that is an exchange they can't win

"say to break contracts and shift attention away from losses to the u.s"

Like it. You said it more succinctly than I.

1) Russia wanted to wage economic (hybrid warfare against NATO.

2) To wage such warfare long term, Russia need a better excuse than maintenance.
Ergo sabotage.
