Private corporations (PMC's aside) like Microsoft and SpaceX involving themselves in a hybrid war as belligerents is a significant step in further removing Congress and the electorate from the equation of warfare. I don't think anyone in Congress even thinks about such things anymore.

What alternatives are there? If Putin wishes to disable free market satellites and expects to walk away unaffected, he's opening a VERY large and stinky can of worms.

I think you misread the article. 1,300 base stations with frontline troops were shut off due to their subscription running out. Putin didn't attack anything in orbit.

I was going off of the "satellite units over the Ukraine" from the headline. I am eager to know how it will be done, if indeed it ever is done during this conflict.

The headline is intentionally misleading I believe. CNN's modus operandi.

Not sure it's possible... shooting one giant old sat in one thibg, how do you take out 1000 tiny ones? Without creating a wall of space debris, and I mean..
