WNU Editor:I find it interesting that French President Macron is trying to enhance these relationships bilaterally instead of doing it inside of NATO. This is also a shift away from all the talk of the French - German political/economic/military alliance that we have been hearing in the past few years.

* With high energy prices is Germany the economic engine?
* France still has a military. Does Germany?

If a country is not an economic or military powerhouse (& not known for resources), how important is it?

The German leaders of late seem to have this craven desire to be BOHICA'd. where is the German military. Warplanes & helos that are grounded and cannot fly. Troops with broomsticks. Say NAZI to a German politician and they bend over or assume the fetal position. Even the Japanese have gotten over WW2 and taken off the "Hit me" signs.

What good is Germany?

What good is s female German defense minister. Good, so they broke the glass ceiling. Good so they broke the glass ceiling again and again. Has any German defense minister in the last decade and a half gone to at for the German military. From the state of the German military it is obvious that they needed to. The defense minister's post is like a lot of other posts. it is a stepping stone. It is a steppingstone to be discarded like one would a Kleenex.

What really impressed me was, when a defense minister came from the ministry of women, children and families. I knew they meant business then and that the Russian bear should cower in its den.

What good is Germany?

Macron eschewing NATO for bilateral relations. France has always done that since the prickly and almost British assassinated Charles De Gaulle. It is a way of showing they are not second fiddle. For along time France pulled out of part of NATO in the 50s or 60s.
