Heavy Russian Losses Being Reported In The Battle Of The Eastern Ukrainian City Of Pavlivka

Daily Mail: Russian marines say 'incompetent' generals are treating them as 'cannon fodder' as 300 'are killed or wounded in four-day massacre' - as footage also shows latest mutiny by Putin's soldiers

* Russian marines said catastrophic planning by generals led to massacre of men

* They wrote in a letter that their generals had treated them as 'cannon fodder'

* Soldiers claimed that Russian commanders are 'hiding' mayhem on frontlines

Russian marines have said their 'incompetent' generals are treating them as 'cannon fodder' after their unit suffered devastating losses, with 300 men reportedly killed or wounded in four days of heavy fighting in eastern Ukraine.

Marines from Russia's 155th Naval Infantry Brigade wrote a scathing letter to their regional governor, claiming they had lost 300 servicemen in a four-day massacre in Pavlivka thanks to the catastrophic planning of Generals Rustam Muradov and Zurab Akhmedov.

The soldiers claimed Russian commanders were 'hiding' the mayhem in the Donetsk region and 'playing down the number of losses for fear of being held responsible'.

WNU Editor: I have been hearing reports from both sides on how disastrous this assault became, but the media attention, from both the West and in Russia itself is on Russian losses.

Russian military bloggers that I trust and who are following the war in Ukraine very closely say that the decision to launch this attack was done in extremely muddy and unfavorable conditions for the Russian military. Speculation abounds that the General who ordered this attack did so because he felt that he was about to be fired by the new Supreme Commander recently appointed by Putin to oversee the war.

Bottom line. Hundreds of Russian marines were killed or wounded after fighting in what many are describing were World War One conditions. My Ukrainian sources are also saying the same thing. But they are also saying that Ukrainian losses were just as bad if not worse.

I am very familiar with what the muddy season looks like in Ukraine (and in Russia). It is a mess, and if you are not on a solid road you will get stuck in the mud. Why a General would order his units to fight in such conditions makes no sense to me. Winter is only a few weeks from now, and the ground is going to get frozen thereby making it easier for Russian troops and vehicles to maneuver. It looks like these Russian Generals did not want to wait a few weeks.

Update: They can deny all that they want. But Russian social media is painting a very different story .... Russia issues rare denial of "pointless losses" by marines in Ukraine (Reuters).

Now that the 155th Brigade is no longer in Vladivostok and is chewed up, who will protect Vladivostok in Xi gets hungry?

That general needs to be shot. Russian leadership is atrocious. Can’t seem to learn from very recent mistakes.

If China pulls a move like that at a time like this, every Russian citizen will be demanding the Nuclear annihilation of China. Won’t happen.

Ukro claim: 300 killed or wounded

Russian MOD Response: 1% KIA and 7% WIA

The 155th Brigade is 3300 men at full strength, so 1% + 7% = 33 KIA and 231 WIA

AKA: basically what was reported.

A rare case where both sides seem to agree on the numbers but disagree at the same time.

The ground was good in June/July, when the Russians took Severodonetsk, but only by massive use of artillery fire. They are running out of shells. They are having to buy from North Korea. Right now the CIA and DIA is trying to figure out how many shells and what their reliability is. How long have those shells been stored and it what conditions.

Winter might hurt the Russians more them help them judging from the kit the mobiks are getting. Don't rightly know.

What ought to be scaring the bejesus out of Putin and the rest is the disorder in Kazan. Russia conquered Kazan 4 centuries ago and they are not fully assimilated. Since at least 2000 the Kremlin has handled Kazan adroitly to preclude problems. Maybe their luck ran out.

Kherson without air support is a lost cause for the Russians. About the most the Russian can do is come up to the line of demarcation with the helicopters and jets and fire off a volley and risk being shot down anyway. That is not enough air cover. The Russian have to bring supplies across interdicted river crossing points. Maybe Herman Goering is advising the Russian general staff. He is telling them they can keep the Kherson Pocket supplied.

Keeping the East bank from Kherson supplier might be problematic as well. It will be more of a slow drip drip of trucks being lost and logistics overall being hurt. But the Kherson Siegfried line on the East Bank will hold. :)

Discipline and a well motivated army is more important than how big it is.. the vast majority of Russian soldiers don’t want to be in Ukraine killing their brothers and the vast majority or Ukrainian soldiers are well motivated and will die protecting their country…things will only get worse for Russia as reservist’s and new recruits will be sent to the front and it will not end well for them.

"as if the 155th brigade could prevent a Chinese invasion" - Caecus

By itself? No. But as part of a military grouping, where more and more a being sent West.

Vladivostok was given to Russia as part of an Unequal Treaty. So the Chinese regard it as theirs. Demographically, it might happen anyway.

There are a lot of factors such as the strength of the Chinese economy and if Xi could accomplish it as fast as 1938 or as slow as 1939.

China only has 3000 nuke missiles but they are building up fast. They might make the usal fait accompli gamble, which might work as well as "We are losing the War, but fighting anyway to get better terms."

The Chinese will not rely on conventional force groupings. If you look at it conventionally, you will miss it.
