Russia And Ukraine Continue To Trade Military Strikes

Soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine repair a captured Russian infantry fighting vehicle in the Kharkiv region on November 3.

RFE: Russia Launches More Drones Into Central Ukraine As Fierce Fighting Under Way In The East

Russia launched fresh drone attacks on targets in central Ukraine as Kyiv's forces fought pitched battles in the east and Moscow-appointed authorities continued to evacuate people from Kherson in the south in apparent preparation to stave off a potential Ukrainian offensive.

The General Staff of the Ukrainian armed forces said on November 5 that its forces managed to stop Russian attacks the previous day in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions in the east.

The Ukrainian military, meanwhile, said it launched 11 strikes against Russian positions, while Ukrainian air defenses shot down an Orlan-10 drone, 11 Shahed-136 drones, and two Kalibr cruise missiles.

WNU Editor: While there has been fighting along much of the front-lines, there has been no major push to gain territory in the past few days. It feels like a lull before the storm.

And while the Western media narrative is claiming that Ukraine is going to be launching counter-offensives soon, my gut tells me that it is the reverse. That with over 300,000 more troops being prepared to enter Ukraine, it is actually Russia that will be launching an offensive in the coming months with the focus on taking the all of the territories of the four regions that Moscow has claimed as its own.

And winter favors the Russian military. Or so my military sources tell me.

There will be no forest coverage during winter (all the leaves are on the ground), and with air and artillery superiority they tell me that it will be easy for Russian forces to easily identify and pick-off Ukraine military positions.

All that I can say is .... we shall see.

Your gut is wrong. The Russian offensive that took Severodonetsk had zero finesse to it. It was a sledge hammer of artillery barrage after artillery barrage until there are no humans and no buildings left. That 'offensive' came 3 weeks or longer than predicted. The railroads must be slow in Russia. they were slow transferring routed troops from Kyiv to the Eastern front. Hitler could have done better with more alacrity and he was inbred.

"That with over 300,000 more troops being prepared to enter Ukraine,"

The last great Russian offensive was an outmatched artillery duel. Well Russian ammo dumps have been obliterated and many Russian artillery pieces are off the board. Russia has to go begging to North Korea for ammo.

So these new (less than) 300,000 will have to do what better prepared units before them failed to do. They will have to do it without massive artillery superiority.

Until one looks at the number of artillery units and updates the TOE, I will assume that the Russians still have artillery superiority. If nothing else they will have local artillery superiority. One assumes anyway.

But will the ratio of artillery superiority be enough for green troops to accomplish what seasoned troops did not or only did after artillery barrages that are no longer feasible.

The equipment issued to the new backstops will probably be crap if the state of preservation of Russia's mothballed tank fleet is any indicator. Infantry kit is not as sexy as armor. I would think anything stored longer than 20 years is more of a liability than a blessing. Anything rubber has a max shelf life of 20 years. Most rubber has less f a shelf life. In a non-climate controlled storage in a region categorized as humid continental climate (Köppen: Dfb), you have to wonder about clothing as well. That is when those 300,000 dragooned volunteers are issued equipment.

Reasons to come here are to get explanations of diplomacy as a result of foreign service. American publication could provide such a service but they are partisan and delusional. The same goes for economics having done business in Canada and Russia gives WNU a less bigoted, more broadened POV. Again most of the American press are partisan bigots with blinders.

But on military matter pertaining to Russia, WNU is much like my foreign born spouse. Will not speak ill of the old country. No way, no how.

WNU by all accounts Russia dies not have 300k additional troops, and what it did receive are a hindrance not a help with minimal training and equipment.
It is ukraine that has received hundreds of thousands top of the line winter combat uniforms and boots while Russians fight in smet gear
..this time they wull know what the Germans felt .

By all accounts Russia got their 300k by mobilizing just former military members, and got 70k extra volunteers. You are on a deep acid trip brother.

Also, the country that has to beg for donated winter coats (that will only clothe 1/7 it's active duty troops) is not the dominant actor.
