Russian Military Ordered To Leave Kherson City

Daily Mail: The moment of Putin's humiliation: Russian commander squirms as he is forced by Sergei Shoigu to order troop withdrawal from Kherson

* Russia will retreat from Kherson, Putin's top commander in Ukraine has said

* Troops will leave 'in the near future' and take up positions across Dnipro River

* Loss of the city - capital of a region Putin annexed to Russia just weeks ago - is the most humiliating loss yet suffered by his military

* General Surovikin said city was impossible to defend in face of Ukrainian attack

This is the moment Russia's top commander was ordered to withdraw from Kherson, after admitting the city is impossible to defend in the face Ukrainian advances.

General Sergei Surovikin was hauled on to state TV alongside Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu who ordered him to pull his men back across the Dnipro River and surrender Kherson to the Ukrainians in a heavily stage-managed affair.

Surovikin gave a report in which he said his troops are in danger and civilians are being killed, before recommending a retreat. Shoigu agreed, to which the squirming general replied: 'Yes sir. The troop manoeuvres will be made as soon as possible.'

fazman,

Defending the old country is axiomatic. My spouse does it all the time. Spouse won't defend the leaders of the old country, but they will defend the country tenaciously. It is natural.

And, if we were in the old country, we would not be talking about policy and, if I did, I would get an elbow or worse.

Due to the two Chechen Wars, the Syrian War and the Georgian War (small affair for Russia and probably not worth mentioning or maybe not edifying for the Russian military), I thought the Russians would have better tactics, leadership, elan, logistics and the rest. With 6 or 7 to 1 artillery advantage and with artillery being the biggest killer on the battlefield, I thought the Russia would have won.

When you are facing a artillery mismatch, if your enemy does not keep firm contact on the main line of resistance, you can use a gasbag defense to partially negate the enemies artillery advantage. Not sure what the Ukrainians did except to have 3 lines of trenches and strong points. Also they gave up ground stubbornly, but they gave it up to preserve a fighting force and not get chewed up and either surrounded or a hole torn into their line.

Russia made changes to NCOs as has China except the changes do not seem to be enough. The Russians even brought back commissars (not quite the same but similar).

If you read my previous post you would have noticed that I said this is the biggest defeat for Russia so far in this war.

There's no wisdom in Russian nationalism advanced by Putin dogma.

his process is already underway, though it will take time due to the limited capacity to transport troops and equipment.

🇷🇺 has made defensive positions at crossing points to protect the retreat.

The UA must attack the crossing points if the risk is asymmetrical, The attrition must be large on the Russian side. Kill them now or face them later. They can always surrender.

In war you pay the butchers bill up front or you pay it later, but you always pay it. That is trying to avoid casualties may not minimize them but actually cause you to have more casualties overall.

They need to sink the barges so the Russians have to leave their equipment behind. Even the rifles.
