U.S. Military Personnel In Ukraine To Stop Weapons Smuggling (Update)

National Interest: U.S. Forces Deployed to Ukraine to Fight Weapons Smuggling

A “small number” of U.S. military forces are performing onsite inspections of weapons caches in Ukraine to ensure military aid to Kyiv is being properly accounted for, a senior U.S. defense official told journalists earlier this week.

The defense official said there have been “several” such inspections, but they did not specify how many U.S. personnel there are in Ukraine and where the inspections were performed. Similar inspections were carried out prior to the war, but they were suspended after the Russian invasion commenced on February 24.

Update #2: Why Biden is sending US weapons experts into Ukraine (The Hill)

WNU Editor: This US deployment of military personnel into Ukraine to track the flow of weapons is just a show to placate growing concerns in Europe on what is happening to all of these weapons .... Europol statement on the cooperation with Ukraine (Europol).

I am willing to bet that none of these "US inspectors" are following the flow of these weapons once they leave these depots to the front-lines. And I certainly doubt that Washington wants to take the risk of losing American lives at the front-lines to find what out what happens when these weapons arrive at their final destination. The backlash that would happen in the U.S. if US military personnel are killed in Ukraine, coupled with the reaction from the Kremlin, will be enormous.

The USG had job posting s for GS's to do the same thing. Maybe that did not work out so well.

From 1991 until 2022 how many weapons and weapons tech have Russian soldiers and civilians sold to the North Koreans, Chinese, Iranians, Pakistanis and terror groups? Judging from the state of mothballed Russian tanks in storage, probably a lot!

The US government actually funded a program to keep Soviet nuclear material and scientist from going to terrorists after the USSR collapsed. Russia thanked the US by bending it over.

"The first overt move to establish the Soviet terrorist network occurred in January 1966 when the Tricontinental Conference opened in Havana, Cuba, attended by 513 delegates representing 83 groups from the Third World. The purpose of the conference was to devise a global revolutionary strategy to counter the global strategy of the United States. A short time later, a chain of training camps for guerrillas opened in Cuba under the supervision of a Soviet KGB agent. Cuba started training the world ... (blah) (blah) (blah)"

Another day, more typical Russian shit

As much as I support establishing or enforcing controls on where US weapons end up, I find this to be far too dangerous (assuming it's even effective). In fact, depending on how many and their locations, we very well could see a report of a strike on or near US personnel; headline targeted, wounded, or killed.

Worst of all, these personnel could be recklessly and knowingly allowed to be in harms way as a pretext to escalate the Western response further. At some point, the West may run out of tools to further Ukraine's ability to defend itself, and if Russia gains sufficient momentum, the war could become rapidly more desperate. If the Western (US) commitment is sufficient to not tolerate this, then a pretext for escalation will be searched for and this could be one that doesn't require intentional or fraudulent provocation so much as just placing boots in higher risk areas and waiting for something to happen.

When Sargon first got started as king of the city of Kish, Lugal the king of Uruk had a bigger army. So Sargon exchanged pleasantries and stayed off the menu. He could not win against Lugal.

Sargon took his smaller army a headed north away from Uruk. He conquered several cities and then swung east toward the mountains. It was thought the mountain tribes would deplete his strength. With eastern flank secure and with a larger and blooded army, Sargon attacked Lugal. It was a foregone conclusion.

So why would we let Russia take Ukraine again?

Another more recent example is Hitler. He conquered France with Czechoslovakian tanks. Why did the West allow Hitler to consolidate his conquest of Czechoslovakia?

Hitler conquered France with Slovak tanks not German tanks.

It's a pretext to get US boots on ground
