CNN: Biden to meet Xi on Monday for first high-stakes sit-down with Chinese leader
President Joe Biden will meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping face-to-face on Monday, their first in-person encounter since Biden took office and one that will offer a clarifying opportunity for the world’s most important bilateral relationship.
“The leaders will discuss efforts to maintain and deepen lines of communication between the United States and the PRC, responsibly manage competition, and work together where our interests align, especially on transnational challenges that affect the international community.
The two leaders will also discuss a range of regional and global issues,” said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a statement.

WNU Editor: The U.S. pushed for this meeting. Also nothing has been prepared. That is why I expect nothing will come out of this face-to-face talk. There is no common ground between the two sides on the major issues, and China has also made it very well known since the summer that they do not trust the Biden administration.
Bottom line.
I see this as nothing more but a photo-op, and a hope from the White House that a "personal bond" between the two leaders will come out of this brief meeting.

One thing WNU has drilled into my thick skull is that substantive meetings between world leaders have substantial work completed by senior and mid level diplomats and aides. If that has not happened, then any meeting is no more than a photo op.
So the question is who needs the photo op or who needs it more. Xi does not need it. In my opinion it is needed for the Potemkin Presidency (Потемкинское президентство).
Joe Biden is like Julius Caesar at Alesia. He is surrounded on all sides. He has a circumvallation to defend against the Republicans and he has a second circumvallation to defend against the Democrats who want someone not senile as the party leader.
This photo op is brick in the wall to defend Biden against fellow Democrats.

It gets worse.
Xi might have to have a photo op with Fetterman.

Yeah, such is the state of American intelligentsia. These people think they are smarter than everyone else.
Hopefully Biden doesnt lose his flash cards.

Normally Democrats should have the back of the titular leader. They do in the run-up to an election. They circle the wagons and grin and bear it for the greater good ... errr pillage opportunities. it is not just Republicans wondering if Biden will run in 2024 and Democrats are not worrying just because of the age factor.
Trump did so well that he did not get re-elected though anonymizers still think he did.
Glad to see our resident pornographer is still with us.
